Term 3, Week 3

Time keeps on slipping slipping. One for the Steve Miller Band fans. All one of you.

Anyway, before looking forward to what is happening this term, let's look back on last term and the start of this term.

The biggest event that occurred last term was the school winning the State Gaelic Football Championships hosted by Mansfield Park. The day was incredibly successful with both the Boys team and the Girls team topping their respective competitions. All who participated did so with great heart and enthusiasm. A special mention must go to Billy N. who was crowned as the player of the tournament for the boys competition.

In addition to that, we did a great deal of filming in class of different skills to do with Gaelic Football. I edited together a small 'highlights' package which was viewed at the assembly. If I can work out how to, I will put this up on this very blog.

This term has started with quite a rush. At the moment, I am busy preparing for the re-commencement of the Friday Afternoon Sports program and Active After School.

This term, we are offering the exact same sports for Friday Afternoon sports in Soccer and Netball. This term, the competition will be joined by St Mary's to add a little something different.

For Active After school, we will be doing Netball and Basketball. The arrangements for both these will be exactly the same as before with the Junior Primaries going on Wednesday and the primaries going on Thursday.

In addition, we are planning for a few very interesting little bits and pieces. We have started the premiers be active challenge. Children need to record themselves participating in at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

We are also going to enjoy a little bit of specialist coaching in Netball later in the term and in Rugby Union in preparation for a competition next term.

Well, that is pretty much it. Enjoy another action packed term where too much sport is barely enough.

Term 2, Week 5

So what has been happening this term? Answer! Lot's and lots.

Firstly, we went to District Athletics day at Henley Beach Football Club. The day was a great success with some fantastic results both as individuals and as a team. Special congratulations must go to Billy, who won the 100m, 200m, and the 800m respectively and to Jasmin who came second in the 200m, and third in 100m.

Active After school has started up again for Junior Primary and Primary schools. This term, the kids will be learning soccer at Mansfield Park Primary School. Junior Primary kids (Reception to 3) are going on Wednesday night and Primary kids (4 to 7) are going on Thursday night. Kids can be picked up from 4:15 pm.

In addition to this, Friday afternoon sports have also begun. Ferryden Park will taking Netball and Soccer teams to Mansfield Park on Friday afternoon.

In other news, the teachers Football Pooling competition is heating up. Results are extremely close, but Steph is currently tying with Mr. Scott at the top of the pool.

Folks, please comment. Let me know this is being read.

PE Week 6

Well well well. The terms is certainly flying by.

Hot weather has led to the cancellation of 2 major sporting events in the District Athletics Carnival and the first week of Friday Afternoon SAPSASA sports. The Friday Afternoon SAPSASA Sports will begin this weekon Friday (Weather permitting) at Mansfield Park. Children will be playing Volleyball and Softball against other local schools including Mansfield Park, Ridley Grove and Challa Gardens.

The District Athletics carnival looks like being held quite early in Term 2. The latest information available has suggested that the carnival will be held on the Monday of week 2, but this is subject to change. It may also need to be held at a venue other than SANTOS Stadium due to the change of date. More information as soon as we know something more concrete.

In other news, Active After School has been going relatively smoothely, though some kids will need to check their weeks and ensure they have swimming gear like bathers and a towel. I'm looking into getting some new gear for the sports shed, so please provide ideas through the comment section.

In addition, three students from the school have started playing Kanga Cricket at Woodville Cricket Club on Saturday mornings. They seem very keen and seem to be enjoying greatly. There may possibly some more places for young crickets who are under year 4.

Not much more to say. Enjoy your sport. Post questions on the comments section.

2010 - Start of the Year Stuff

Thursday, January 21, 2010

So we are starting another year! My name is Mr. Badman and I will be taking the P.E. with all the classes and organising the school sports program including SAPSASA sport, after school sports and inter school sports. In addition to this I will be working with a couple of classes with their Literacy and Numeracy.

Last year, I worked at Enfield Primary School as a P.E. teacher and enjoyed it very much.

At the moment, I play Cricket for Belair Cricket Club and Indoor Soccer for a team made up of friends I went to school with. In the winter, I will probably play field Soccer; although I don't know which club I will play for just yet.

In the past, I have played Baseball, Aussie Rules Football, Basketball, Hockey, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, Softball, Rugby Union, Touch Football and mixed Netball. I have either played for organised clubs or in social teams (Teams organised by friends).

I love playing and watching sports a lot. I wouldn't say that I was particularly fantastic at any sport, but I think the most important thing about sport is having a go, getting puffed out and meeting new people.

Cheers for now,
Mr. Badman
